Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Undergraduate Programs A-Z

The combined BS/MS degree pathway is intended to allow students the opportunity to complete both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Computer Science in 5 years. To be admitted into the program, students must submit the Graduate Admissions Application and fee as well as all required program admission materials by the deadline. Applications should be submitted in the spring of their junior year (6th semester), with admission to the BAM program commencing in the fall of their senior year (7th semester).

Requirements

Students pursuing this degree should meet the degree requirements for regular Master of Science in Computer Science.

There are four pathways students can take depending on their BS degree option. Each pathway differs in the set of courses that can be double-counted for both the bachelor’s and master’s degree.

The minimum grade requirement for double-counted courses is a B (not B-) or higher.

Gateway course:

With a grade B or higher. The minimum grade requirement is B (not B-) or higher.

BS in Computer Science in Creative Computational Media and MS in Computer Science

The following courses can be double-counted in BS in Computer Science in Creative Computational Media track and MS in Computer Science.

Notes:

Students must incorporate all focus requirements into this plan. Focus designations (i.e., W, E, O, H) are CRN specific & semester specific.
Students must take placements exams to register for CHEM 161  and MATH 215  or MATH 241 .
To enroll in MATH 242 , students must meet the grade of B or better in MATH 215 . To enroll in MATH 252A , students must take MATH 241  or MATH 251A , meet the grade requirement of B or better in MATH 241 , and consent to enroll in MATH 252A .

Substitution allowed: (ICS 141  and ICS 241 ) for MATH 301  in the Creative Computational Media Track. Check with your academic advisor as the substitution could affect other degree requirements.
Minimum 45 upper division (300+ course) credits are required.
Minimum grade for Gateway course ICS 311  or ECE 367  is B or better (not B-). ECE 367  can be a substitution for ICS 311 .
Minimum grade for a course that can double-count for the BS and MS is B or better (not B-): (ICS 487  or ICS 488 ), and up to two of the following: ICS 621 , ICS 664 , ICS 681 , ICS 684 , ICS 685 , ICS 691 .

* BAM students are able to double count either ICS 487  or ICS 488  with their MS CSCI degree. Minimum grade for a course that can double-count for the BS and MS is B or better (not B-).

** BAM students are able to count up to two of ICS 621 , ICS 664 , ICS 681 , ICS 684 , ICS 685 , and ICS 691  toward their BS CCM electives. To also count these courses toward their MS CSCI degree, students must earn a grade of B or higher (not B-).

*** ICS 690  (1 credit) taken as excess credit from the BS degree. Need to petition to have the credit counted toward the MS degree. If BAM students cannot take ICS 690  in the last year of the bachelor’s degree, they will need to take it in the Fall of the 5th year.

Plan A students register for ICS 700  while Plan B students register for ICS 699 . Plan B students must present a poster on their Capstone project, approved by their advisor, at ICS Project Day. Projected graduation with BS degree is semester 8.
