Atmospheric Sciences (Plan A), BS/MS

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: School of Ocean & Earth Science & Technology

An accelerated BS/MS degree program is offered in atmospheric sciences, as one of the university’s combined bachelor’s and master’s (BAM) degree pathways. The key aspect of this program is that 9 credits of specific technical electives taken as part of the BS degree can be “double-counted” as credit towards the MS degree. This enables completion of an MS in atmospheric sciences within a single year following completion of the BS degree.

Notes:

Students must take placement exams to be able to register for CHEM 161  and MATH 241 . ATMO 303  is a gateway course.
Minimum 45 upper division (300+ course) credits are required. Up to one designated upper division course can be double counted.
Students must incorporate all focus requirements into this plan. Focus designations (i.e., W, E, O, H) are CRN specific and semester specific.
*If students take ATMO 412  or ATMO 416  in their Spring Junior year they can choose not to take ATMO 405  in Fall Senior year. In this case, they can replace ATMO 405  with another elective 400+ level course.
Nine credits may be double-counted across the two programs from the approved list(s): three 600-level courses ATMO 600 ATMO 601 ATMO 606 ATMO 607 ATMO 610 ATMO 611 ATMO 614 ATMO 620 ATMO 631 , or ATMO 632 , or 6 credits of 600-level courses from the approved list and 3 credits from the approved 400-level list: ATMO 405 ATMO 406 , or ATMO 449 .
**If students elect to double-count their ATMO Elective 400+ (ATMO 405 ATMO 406 , or ATMO 449 ) in their senior year, then they can remove one ATMO 400+ (or 600+) from the Fall of their Graduate Year.
